LRSD board to consider school closure or consolidation options 7A and 7D

Facilities
A replica bus bench with concrete curved legs, a wooden seat and black back rest with a circular advertisement reading "You can advertise on this bench - phone MO 6-2159" sits at the corner of 16th Street and S. Park Street.
At this location, Elizabeth Eckford, one of the Little Rock Nine, waited for a city bus after being turned away by the Arkansas National Guard from entering Central High School and pursued here by an angry mob on Wednesday, September 4, 1957.

What happened

The superintendent recommends that the board choose between LRSD Forward closure/consolidation options 7A and 7D at its Oct. 15 meeting; neither option has been approved. The agenda leaves the specific affected schools and financial impact to the supporting plan and later board action.

Why it matters to families

Either option could materially change where students attend school and district operations. Families should treat this as a pending proposal, not a finalized closure decision.

The evidence

The Oct. 15 agenda says the board is “positioned to take action” and recommends approval of “either closure/consolidation Option 7A or 7D”; it states financial impact is “TBD after Board Action is taken.”
