District funds a real softball field after equity concerns
What happened
After concerns raised in fall 2025 that Central High School's softball facilities lagged far behind its baseball field, the board approved a short-term plan on May 28, 2026, and on June 25, 2026 passed a resolution committing proceeds from the sale of two district properties to build a proper softball field at Central High. The board also adopted a new policy requiring a Title IX compliance review before any future construction project.
Why it matters to families
Title IX requires schools to give boys' and girls' sports comparable facilities. This shows the district responding to a real equity gap and putting a policy in place to catch the problem earlier next time.
The evidence
The June 25, 2026 board meeting agenda's Title IX Resolution on Sale of Property states the district is 'taking proactive steps to audit Title IX-related criteria across district operations' after concerns about the Central High softball program, and pledges sale proceeds to build a softball field.
