What happened

Lone Jack's middle school is changing how students use RTI time: on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays they stay in their assigned RTI classrooms for help, reading, and unfinished work, while eligible students can attend assigned clubs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Participating students will also have additional engagement opportunities on the first three days.

Why it matters to families

The weekday structure changes when students receive classroom catch-up support versus club opportunities, and adds intervention support for middle- and high-school students who need extra math help.

The evidence

The September 14 board minutes report that the middle school is changing RTI this year: students remain in RTI classrooms Monday/Wednesday/Friday to catch up, get teacher help, and read; eligible students may attend assigned clubs Tuesday/Thursday, including yearbook, coding, fitness, weights, fishing, and student council. The minutes also say the school will introduce additional "endeavors" on Monday/Wednesday/Friday for participating students and that Mr. Bailey is providing math intervention to students in need at both middle and high school.
