Madison Public Schools — Facilities

Madison Public Schools is steadily carrying out a multi-part facilities program funded by a voter-approved referendum, and the three most recent Board actions show that work moving from preparation into active construction. The earliest development came in December 2025, when the Board approved $686,189 in asbestos abatement work to prepare buildings for renovation: $376,439 for occupied abatement at Madison High School and $309,750 for unoccupied abatement at Torey J. Sabatini School.

In April 2026, the Board awarded four major construction contracts, signaling that the referendum work had reached the build phase. The awards covered $825,500 for interiors at Torey J. Sabatini School, $1.239 million for the Madison High School roof, $1.064 million for ceiling and lighting upgrades at three schools, and $1.6 million for the high-school gym renovation — together the largest single step in this set of alerts.

Most recently, in May 2026, the district turned toward long-term sustainability, with the Board approving an agreement with an energy consultant and authorizing an RFP for third-party-financed solar photovoltaic systems on designated district properties. This moves the solar project forward toward a power purchase agreement procurement while the referendum-funded repairs and upgrades continue.
