What happened

The Commission rated chronic absenteeism Not Meeting in all four years reviewed. The preliminary 2025-26 rate was 37%, down from 58% at the start of the previous charter period.

Why it matters to families

Students who miss a lot of school fall behind. More than a third of MeANS students were chronically absent last year, even though the rate is improving.

The evidence

Charter renewal recommendation, 'Areas where performance has not yet met expectations.' Board minutes from May 2026 describe an attendance competition with awards aimed at chronic absenteeism.
