What happened

Marysville board members reported that the City will improve the space and visibility for students crossing near Hwy 36 and 11th Street. The City has posted flags for students to carry and committed to removing parking on 10th–12th Streets and adding white posts; flashing lights are still being explored.

Why it matters to families

The changes are intended to make students more visible and provide a safer place to step off the curb near a busy crossing, while flashing lights have not yet been committed to.

The evidence

At the Oct. 12, 2026 meeting, a board member reported an update after discussions with KDOT and City administration: the City had posted flags at the corner for students to carry while crossing, committed to removing parking from 10th through 12th Streets, and planned white posts to give students a safe space to step off the curb. The committee was still looking into flashing lights for high-traffic times.
