District news

High school will not count two new Regents exams unless they help a student's grade

Day-to-day

What happened

In a June 24, 2026 letter, the superintendent said the new Earth and Space Science and Biology Regents did not give many students a fair chance. For June 2026, a score counts in the course average only if it raises the grade. Scores still go on transcripts and still count for graduation.

Why it matters to families

It protects course grades for students who took these two exams. It was done by changing the district grading rule, after parent complaints and a review.

The evidence

The superintendent letter states the decision. June 25 minutes record the assistant superintendent saying the district investigated and chose a do-no-harm approach.
