Cleaning and building management handed to a contractor for $18 million

What happened
On April 27, 2026 the board awarded a five-year contract for custodial and management services to Aramark for $17,989,782.89, running from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2031, by nine votes to none. The tender behind it was authorised as a competitive-contracting process at the December 15, 2025 meeting.
Why it matters to families
Custodians are the staff who keep buildings clean and safe day to day, and moving the work to an outside company changes who employs them and who answers when something is not done. At about $18 million over five years it is also one of the largest single commitments the board made in the year.
