What happened

Meigs Local approved a partnership with Marietta Plumbers and Pipefitters to provide high school students with pre-apprenticeship training in industrial construction. The program is planned for six junior and senior welding students, with grant funding covering program costs and a $20-per-day attendance stipend to help with transportation; students would initially attend three days a week.

Why it matters to families

Students could gain hands-on preparation and a pathway to paid apprenticeships and construction-industry jobs while still in high school.
