Morningside plans daily targeted small-group phonics instruction for K-5 students
Morningside Elementary · Aug 11, 2026
What happened
Morningside's 2026-27 Targeted Student Population plan introduces a 40-minute daily small-group UFLI Foundations phonics program for targeted kindergarten-through-fifth-grade students. The plan says staff will use diagnostic and progress-monitoring data, train paraprofessionals, and provide differentiated instruction.
Why it matters to families
This is a new instructional program that changes how targeted students receive foundational literacy support during the school day. The plan ties the work to English Learners, low-income students, and students in foster care while describing the resource as available to all students.
The evidence
The published TSP plan labels the Academic Excellence strategy 'New' and says the school will use UFLI Foundations for '40 minutes daily for targeted students in K-5.' It also lists an instructional aide, materials, staff collaboration, and progress monitoring as parts of the strategy.
