What happened

On Aug. 26, 2026, the chair announced an ad hoc committee to examine the future of Brownfield-Denmark Elementary School, including possible closure. The school had about 82 students in 2025-26 in a building with five classrooms. The board's charge lists options from the status quo to consolidation or formal closure. It says the committee will recommend but the board decides. The board cited the cost of running a small school as enrollment declines, ahead of the FY28 budget.

Why it matters to families

Families in Brownfield and Denmark could see their children moved to other schools. The board says meetings are public and recorded.
