New Bedford Public Schools — Facilities

Major facilities work in New Bedford Public Schools is underway on three fronts. The earliest reported development was the state's approval on October 29, 2025, of roof-replacement projects at seven elementary schools, followed by City Council funding on December 11, 2025 of the combined $35,927,362 roof package, with a roof-and-window project at Trinity Day Academy approved the same day and a vote on Gomes Elementary's roof deferred to February 25, 2025. The district's Finance & Operations Sub-Committee then reported in June 2026 that the new Congdon-DeValles Elementary building project is progressing well and remains on track to open in January 2027. Most recently along with its elementary consolidation effort: New Bedford is working with the state's MSBA to combine the Ashley and Swift elementaries into one building serving 665 K-5 students plus six pre-kindergarten classrooms, with two options (return addition/renovation of the current building or a new building on the same site) and a district submission to the state due August 24, 2026, a state decision expected by October 28, 2026, and students moving in by 2030.
