Facilities

What happened

The state's MSBA approved seven school roof-replacement projects on October 29, 2025, and the City Council voted December 11, 2025 to fund them: Campbell ($3.50M), Hathaway ($2.68M), Pacheco ($2.17M), Whaling City ($5.70M), Sgt. William Carney ($6.95M), Hayden-McFadden ($6.77M) and Pulaski ($8.14M) elementary schools, a combined $35,927,362. A roof and window project at Trinity Day Academy was approved the same day the MSBA projects were. A vote on funding Gomes Elementary's roof was pushed back to February 25, 2026.

Why it matters to families

These are buildings hundreds of elementary students learn in every day; the projects include required accessibility upgrades, and nearly $36 million in city and state capital money is now committed to fixing them.

The evidence

The December 8, 2025 regular meeting minutes list each school's roof-project cost and state that the City Council would vote on the funding December 11, 2025. The district's January and February 2026 Finance & Operations reports to the School Committee confirm the MSBA approval date, the City Council funding vote, and that the Gomes Elementary vote was pushed to February 25, 2026.
