New career and technical education building opens for 2026-27

Facilities

What happened

The district opened its new career and technical high school building at the start of this school year. It adds training in HVAC, plumbing, dog grooming and veterinary science.

Why it matters to families

Students can train for skilled jobs in a new full-day building, and classes at Newburgh Free Academy Main can get smaller. The project cost more than voters saw in 2019: $62 million then, and a $92.7 million construction estimate in 2023. The district says the extra cost is paid from the 2019 bond vote, not the general budget.

The evidence

At the Sept. 15, 2026 meeting the superintendent said the district "opened a brand new state-of-the-art career and technical high school building." At the Nov. 12, 2025 meeting the project team described the $62 million 2019 estimate and the $92.7 million June 2023 estimate.
