Shaker High renovation is under way; track, field and tennis courts closed for summer 2026
What happened
The $94 million capital project that voters approved in 2024 is under construction. Work began in December 2025 with a temporary cafeteria in the high school library. By May 2026 crews were building a new J-wing with classrooms and science labs, and Walker Field and the track closed June 1 and the tennis courts June 22.
Why it matters to families
Students and fans lose some spaces while work is done, mostly over breaks and summers. The state building aid is expected to pay about 78% of the cost, leaving about $20.5 million for local taxpayers.
The evidence
The district's capital project page lists the closures and construction status. A February 13 news story and the winter newsletter describe the first phases. Cost and aid figures come from the superintendent's message on the same page.
