$433,000 cut from next year's school budget, from salaries and transportation

What happened

After the state set its education aid and the town set its local contribution, the School Committee voted 7-0 to reconcile the 2026-2027 budget it had adopted in February. The chair said the budget fell by $433,000 and that the reduction would come out of salaries and transportation.

Why it matters to families

Salaries and transportation are the two lines families notice most: they decide how many adults work in the schools and how children get to them.

The evidence

The June 15, 2026 approved minutes record the superintendent asking for approval to reconcile the FY27 budget based on state funding and municipal funding information, and state that 'Chairman Pallotta stated that the decrease in the budget was $433,000, and would be cut from salaries and transportation.' The motion carried 7-0. The February 4, 2026 minutes record the original FY27 budget being adopted 7-0. Neither set of minutes gives the total size of the budget, and no budget document was filed with them.
