Board considers combining schools into one building

High-risk

What happened

At a September 25, 2026 work session, trustees discussed the pros and cons of combining North Star's schools, now in Gildford and Rudyard, into one building. In April they began strategic planning because enrollment and sports turnout are falling.

Why it matters to families

Combining schools would change where children in Gildford, Rudyard, Hingham and Kremlin go to school and how far they ride the bus. No decision has been made.

The evidence

The April 14 minutes record concerns about enrollment and a request for each school's yearly cost. The May 11 agenda announced a community meeting on the district's future, and the September 25 minutes record the discussion of combining schools. The October 13 agenda includes a report from that work session.
