District news
Kindergarten enrollment is down 57 students; total enrollment keeps slipping
What happened
On Oct. 1, 2026 the district counted 360 kindergartners, down from 417 a year earlier. Students in grades K-12 totaled 5,083, down from 5,153. Elementary buildings (with pre-K) hold 2,926 students, down from 2,958.
Why it matters to families
Fewer young children means fewer students in later years and less state aid and staffing need over time. The superintendent said the kindergarten drop has no known cause and that the district has been losing about 100 students a year.
The evidence
The Oct. 14, 2026 agenda attachment "October 1, 2026 Enrollment" shows the counts. The superintendent also described them in the meeting recording. The district did not explain the drop.
