District news
Kimberly Ballard appointed to lead middle-college planning
What happened
The board appointed Kimberly Ballard principal of Middle College and Career Innovation, effective July 29. Later district comments describe her working with Desert Learning Academy and the College of the Desert partnership.
Why it matters to families
The role supports a new route to college credits while the district continues discussing how its alternative-learning programs fit together.
The evidence
The July 28 employment agreement establishes the appointment. On June 9 the superintendent explicitly said there were no current plans to close Desert Learning Academy or independent study. These recordings do not establish a middle-college student opening date or a DLA closure decision.
