District news

Church space license included curriculum restrictions

Day-to-day

What happened

A district license for church office and gallery-storage space through June 2026 included terms restricting sex education at the site and stating that district curriculum should not knowingly conflict with Catholic teaching.

Why it matters to families

The language raises questions about how a religious property agreement applied to a public school district’s educational decisions.

The evidence

The signed counterpart pages appear in the May 19 board packet. The agreement required state authorization, which was not established here. A later five-year lease does not identify the property, so continuation of these terms is unknown.
