District officials float a smaller high school expansion bond, vote no sooner than February

Facilities

What happened

At the Oct. 19 board meeting, district officials said a committee agreed the high school needs a bigger cafeteria (now about 238 seats, aiming near 400), about 10 more classrooms, band and orchestra space, and more restrooms. They said residents earlier asked for a bond near $50 million or less, about $20 to $30 more per month. The earliest vote would be the week of Feb. 8, they said. No vote is set.

Why it matters to families

Voters rejected a $113.9 million bond in January 2025. Officials say the high school keeps growing and could hold over 1,600 students through the class of 2036. A new bond would raise taxes if voters approve it.

The evidence

Auto-generated captions of the Oct. 19, 2026 meeting record administrators presenting the facilities committee's views, the 20 to 30 dollar-a-month survey finding, and the 'week of February 8th' earliest timeline. The board has not voted on a bond or a price.
