School calendar changed twice after the board rejected the superintendent's plan
What happened
Asked to reconsider a vote taken two weeks earlier, the School Committee again rejected the superintendent's proposed changes to the 2025-2026 calendar, this time 3-3. She then offered an alternative calendar, which passed 6-0. On April 14 her original proposal had failed 3-4 and a member's substitute passed 4-3, putting the professional and wellness days on May 22 and June 18 with students in school until June 17. The committee also updated the 2026-2027 calendar because the statewide primary date moved.
Why it matters to families
The calendar decides when the school year ends and which days children are off, which families plan work and childcare around. Three votes in three weeks meant those dates changed more than once.
The evidence
The April 30, 2026 approved minutes record the 3-3 failure of the superintendent's proposal and the unanimous 6-0 adoption of her alternative calendar, plus the 2026-2027 update for the primary date change. The April 14, 2026 minutes in the same collected record show the earlier 3-4 failure and the 4-3 substitute motion with its specific dates.
