District news
District remains under a deficit plan; 2026-27 budget spends more than it takes in
What happened
Potterville has operated under a state deficit elimination plan. The finance committee reported in August 2026 that 2025-26 ended with a positive fund balance, but the 2026-27 budget relies on deficit spending. Enrollment was 728 students on July 30, below the 743 first budgeted. The board approved a revised budget and updated deficit plan on Aug. 26; in September the plan reports were awaiting state approval.
Why it matters to families
Michigan expects districts in deficit to cut spending or raise revenue under a state-approved plan. Each student below the budget count reduces state aid.
