Board approves a new high school softball field

What happened
The board approved construction of a new softball field at the high school, separate from the baseball-softball field already under construction. The plan includes batting cages, and the board also approved new field lighting and a video scoreboard as part of the athletic-facilities work.
Why it matters to families
The project adds a dedicated softball facility for high school athletics, with shared batting-cage use for baseball and softball. It is a new, distinct field project—not a repeat of the previously approved combined turf field.
The evidence
At the October 29 meeting, the board unanimously approved ATG RAM Industries’ high-school softball-field agreement for $1,006,100 plus a 3% contingency; the transcript’s stated not-to-exceed figure is garbled. Staff described a second batting cage that could also serve baseball. The board separately approved $704,000 plus a 5% contingency ($739,200 total) for sports lighting, pedestrian lighting and a video scoreboard, including ground-up lighting and a scoreboard for the new softball field (00:41:27–00:43:50; 00:47:03–00:52:37).
