What happened

At its September tax-rate hearing, district officials recommended keeping the total levy at $6.32 per $100 of assessed value and projected just over $55 million in property-tax revenue, about $5.7 million below last year. They cited lower assessed valuation and an estimated $4.8 million a year for three years in county tax-credit exposure, whose treatment was still uncertain.

Why it matters to families

The projected decline could materially constrain districtwide funding for operations and debt service; the hearing transcript records a recommendation and forecast, not a final board vote adopting the levy.

The evidence

The September 28, 2026 meeting presentation recommended a $5.1994 operating levy and $1.1206 debt-service levy, totaling $6.32. It forecast just over $55 million in property-tax revenue versus about $61 million the prior year, attributing the decline to a $41.67 million reduction in assessed valuation and Jackson County tax credits; the discussion described $4.8 million per year for three years as an uncertain withholding or repayment exposure.
