What happened

Reed Union presented a proposed 2026–27 budget projecting a deficit of nearly $1.2 million, followed by nearly $1.5 million in 2027–28. Reserves are forecast to fall from 31.3% to about 28% by 2027–28, still roughly one percentage point above the board’s reserve-policy floor; the budget had not yet been approved at this meeting.

Why it matters to families

The projected shortfalls would draw down the district’s financial cushion and leave reserves close to the policy minimum, keeping pressure on future budgets. This updates the district’s previously reported need to find budget solutions with a specific multi-year deficit and reserve forecast.

The evidence

At the June 2, 2026 meeting, the chief business official described the 2026–27 budget as proposed and projected a deficit just under $1.2 million, increasing to just under $1.5 million in 2027–28. The reserve forecast was 31.3% for 2026–27 and about 28% for 2027–28, one percentage point above the board’s reserve policy; the proposed budget’s public hearing followed, and staff said board approval was scheduled for June 8.
