Audit: savings fell by $440,000; retiree health cost not recorded

Financial

What happened

The 2025-26 audit shows the general fund spent about $440,000 more than it took in, lowering its balance from $1.87 million to $1.43 million, partly from building work. The auditor gave a qualified opinion because the district did not record a retiree health care liability, and the child nutrition fund ended $25,669 in the red. No material weaknesses were found.

Why it matters to families

Reserves are falling while the district spends carryover on its office building, and an unrecorded cost means the books do not show everything the district may owe.

The evidence

Audit report (October 2, 2026): general fund 'Net change in fund balance (439,577)'; 'Management has elected not to record a liability for the implicit rate subsidy of the retiree healthcare'; child nutrition deficit of $25,669.
