Ridgewood High School restores its AP self-study option

What happened
The Board restored Ridgewood High School’s AP self-study option for 2026–27, reversing the plan to discontinue it. Students may again prepare independently for a self-selected AP exam without taking the corresponding AP class, following the model offered in 2024–25.
Why it matters to families
Students who want to take an AP exam without enrolling in its course retain that option for the school year.
The evidence
The Sept. 14 minutes say the district had decided to discontinue self-study and the option to take an exam selected by the student. The Board then unanimously approved offering AP self-study for 2026–27 in accordance with the 2024–25 offering; all five members present voted yes. The minutes say a separate discussion of the five-course AP limit would continue at a Curriculum Committee meeting.
