District news
Roma ISD is spending its savings to cover budget gaps
What happened
The 2026-27 budget spends $6.4 million more than it takes in. That includes $2.5 million moved to construction. Savings would fall to about $22.0 million, down from $34.1 million in September 2025.
Why it matters to families
The district is paying for schools with savings while enrollment falls. Smaller savings leave less room for raises, repairs or surprises. Officials say they are cutting costs by not filling some jobs when staff leave.
The evidence
The approved 2026-27 budget book shows the general fund balance falling from $34,125,307 to a projected $28,400,257 at the end of 2025-26 and $22,027,027 at the end of 2026-27. The CFO's cover letter cites declining student enrollment and reduced revenues.
