District news
Voters rejected the school budget by 24 votes, then approved a revised one
What happened
On May 19, 2026 voters defeated the first 2026-27 budget of $165,561,086 (49% yes, 51% no). The board cut the tax-levy increase from 2.89% to about 2.5%, trimmed some additions, and put a revised $165,388,086 budget to a June 16 revote. It passed 1,105 to 1,065 and was adopted June 17. A separate $400,000 school-bus proposition passed in May.
Why it matters to families
Had the revote failed, the district would have used a contingency budget with about $1 million in cuts, including a biology teacher, an intervention teacher, a teaching assistant and security staff and equipment. The 2026-27 spending is $4.85 million above last year's $160.5 million.
The evidence
The June 17, 2026 special meeting minutes record the 1,105 to 1,065 result and adoption of $165,388,086. The May 20 superintendent message reports the 24-vote defeat. The May 21 minutes list the contingency-budget cuts. The district budget notice shows total spending up 3.02% for the revised plan.
