State grant pays for new heating system; board signs builder contract

Facilities

What happened

Sargent won a state BEST grant to replace boilers and fix heating and cooling in its buildings. On June 30, 2026 the board let the superintendent sign design and building contracts with Millig Design Build, after a legal review.

Why it matters to families

Classrooms, the gym and the cafeteria have struggled to stay warm or cool. This is the district's biggest building project, and construction may cause disruptions while it happens.

The evidence

June 30, 2026 special meeting minutes record a 3-0 vote to let the superintendent sign the Millig design and construction contracts, after legal review, without going over the set dollar limits. May 26 minutes say the BEST grant was awarded. The June 22 packet lists a $230,000 scoping fee: $80,000 for boiler replacement design and $150,000 for an air-to-water heat pump design. In February 2026 the board president said the building project was about $675,000 over budget because of HVAC and roofing costs.
