District news
Three elementary schools are under state receivership; district adds a new executive director
What happened
Keane, Lincoln and Pleasant Valley Elementary are in New York 'receivership,' the state's highest level of school support. On August 5 the board created and approved an executive director of district improvement, paid for by a special grant, to supervise them.
Why it matters to families
Receivership means the state is watching test results and attendance closely and requires improvement plans. Keane has been in it about eight years; the other two were added last year.
The evidence
A district presenter said the state accepted each school's continuation plan in July, and families, teachers and the union took part in drafting them in May and June. The board also approved teacher-union agreements for Lincoln, Pleasant Valley and King. A board member noted the new position was not in the May budget; staff said a special grant pays for it.
