Seattle proposes $144 million Aki Kurose modernization contract

What happened
Seattle Public Schools is considering a $144,305,849 guaranteed-maximum-price contract for the Aki Kurose Middle School Modernization and Addition project, plus state sales tax. The amount would be paid to Lydig Construction under a proposed amendment, not a completed approval.
Why it matters to families
This is a major investment in modernizing and adding to Aki Kurose Middle School; the agenda item would authorize the contractor agreement if approved.
The evidence
The Oct. 7, 2026 agenda lists “BEX V/ BEX VI: Authorize the Superintendent to execute the comprehensive Guaranteed Maximum Price amendment with Lydig Construction, Inc., for the Aki Kurose Middle School Modernization and Addition project” and says approval would authorize the amendment “in the amount of $144,305,849, plus Washington State sales tax.”
