What happened

Seattle Public Schools is considering the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test and Naglieri Quantitative Assessment for every first grader as part of its universal Highly Capable screening process. The proposed screening would begin in December 2026.

Why it matters to families

The change would make two specified assessments part of the district’s universal screening of first graders for its Highly Capable process, affecting families across the grade level.

The evidence

The Oct. 7, 2026 agenda item says approval would implement the Naglieri General Ability Tests, “including the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NGAT-NV) and the Naglieri Quantitative Assessment (NGAT-Q) for all Grade 1 students beginning in December 2026 as part of the Seattle Public Schools Highly Capable universal screening process.”
