What happened

On September 29, 2026 the board voted to reestablish the 2026-27 school tax levy. The district says this was needed because of the Town of Smithtown's settlement agreement with LIPA, the power utility.

Why it matters to families

The levy is the total amount raised from property taxes. A change to it can change what homeowners pay. The recap does not give the new dollar amount.

The evidence

The adopted levy before this vote was $229,420,952, up 1.85%.
