District news
School taxes drop about 42 mills under new county equalization
What happened
At the August 18, 2026 budget hearing the board adopted the 2026-27 budget. The business manager said the new county-wide equalization of school mills means the district will levy about 42.31 fewer mills than last year, and about 50 fewer over two years.
Why it matters to families
Local property owners should see a noticeably lower school tax. At the same time the general fund budget, about $2.056 million, is the highest in five years, partly because the district added tuition income from students who come from other districts.
The evidence
August 18, 2026 recording (budget hearing): 'we are proposing 42 mills less ... over the last two years, 50 mills less'; 'down 42.31 mills'; general fund proposed at 2.056 million, up from the 2.037 million preliminary budget in March, 'the highest general fund budget we've had over the last 5 years'.
