State plans to end Regents exams as a graduation requirement

Curriculum

What happened

On Oct. 13, 2026 the district presented New York State's proposed graduation changes ("NY Inspires"): Regents exams would no longer be required to graduate starting in 2027-28, there would be one diploma statewide (January 2028), and credits would be based on showing skills instead of seat time. Personal finance becomes required in 2026-27.

Why it matters to families

These changes would change what high school students must do to graduate and how courses count. They are State proposals; the district is planning how to respond.

The evidence

The Oct. 13, 2026 board presentation lays out the four changes and a three-phase timeline from 2025 to 2029. The district has not adopted local graduation rules in the collected documents.
