Tewksbury Public Schools entered the 2026 budget season under mounting grant-related financial pressure. In March, the Business Manager reported that the district's grant funding losses tied to the Town's continued non-compliance with the MBTA Communities Act had grown significantly, now totaling approximately $213,000.

In April, the Committee capped the planning side of the cycle by unanimously approving an $82,051,493 budget for 2026-27, following a multi-meeting public budget process. The approved spending plan came together against the backdrop of the recurring grant shortfall already on the books.

That pressure surfaced again in May, when the district announced that its summer credit recovery and attendance recovery programs at Wynn and TMHS will run as tuition-based programs this summer at $225 per course, because the ASOST grant that previously funded them is no longer received. Across these three developments, the pattern is one of rising grant revenue losses pushing the district toward tuition-based programming even as it finalized a record-level approved budget.
