First 2026-27 budget fails; smaller budget goes to a re-vote

Financial

What happened

Voters did not approve the first 2026-27 budget on May 19, 2026. The board cut $1.59 million and put a $243,390,092 budget to a re-vote on June 16. The tax levy rises 3.49%, down from the 4.54% first proposed. The district website reports the re-vote passed, 2,096 to 1,817.

Why it matters to families

Cuts included ten staff positions, field trips and co-curricular funds, and capital projects trimmed to $2.5 million. If the re-vote had failed, the district would have faced a contingency budget with a 0% levy increase and $6.24 million more in cuts.

The evidence

The June 3, 2026 hearing slides list the reductions and the revised totals (budget up 2.20%, levy $185,217,549). The six-day notice shows the contingency amount. Vote counts are posted on the district's budget page, which was read but not stored.
