State graduation change: Regents no longer a separate diploma requirement from class of 2028

Curriculum

What happened

Under New York's 'NY Inspires' plan, one diploma replaces the separate Local, Regents and Advanced diplomas. Starting with students who graduate in 2028, passing a set of Regents exams is no longer a separate requirement. Regents exams still continue as state measures. The district is building a local assessment plan.

Why it matters to families

This changes what high school students need to do to graduate and how the district checks learning.

The evidence

The September 30, 2026 Educational Services slides give the timeline by graduating class and say Regents exams are not eliminated.
