What happened

On July 13, 2026, the board accepted a $105,000 offer from Vintage Housing, LLC to purchase the closed Sandburg Elementary School building at 18580 E. 3rd St. The buyer's stated plan is to demolish the school building and develop a new multi-unit affordable-housing complex on the site.

Why it matters to families

Unlike other recent building sales that keep a former school in educational use under a charter operator, this sale ends the building's life entirely -- the school itself will be torn down. It is a concrete marker of enrollment decline in that part of the district: the property is worth more to the district as housing land than as a school building.

The evidence

The July 13, 2026 board agenda's real-estate action item describes the $105,000 offer, the buyer, and the stated intended use for demolition and affordable-housing redevelopment.
