District news
Auditor flags fund balance slightly over the 4% legal limit
What happened
The 2025-26 audit was clean except for one item: unassigned savings (fund balance) were 4.33% of next year's budget, above New York's 4% limit. A year earlier the share was near 11%. The savings fell about $6.2 million in 2025-26 and the district planned to use $14.97 million in 2026-27.
Why it matters to families
The district has been spending down savings to hold down taxes, and the cushion for surprises is now thinner.
The evidence
The October 5, 2026 auditor presentation to the board reported the 4.33% figure and said finances were healthy overall. The board approved the audit the same night.
