Up to $8 million of energy work, paid for out of the savings it creates

What happened

The board introduced an ordinance on July 28, 2026 authorising up to $8,000,000 of energy savings obligation refunding bonds to pay for energy conservation measures in district buildings, with a public hearing and final passage set for August 25, 2026. Under New Jersey's Energy Savings Plan law the work has to pay for itself: the savings it generates, plus any rebates and grants, must cover the cost. DCO Energy developed the plan, Colliers Engineering and Design verified the savings as an independent third party, and the plan went to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities for approval.

Why it matters to families

This is $8 million of building work - lighting, heating and similar systems - funded without asking voters for new taxes, because the law lets a district borrow against verified future energy savings. If the savings do not materialise the district still owes the money, which is why the third-party verification step matters.
