What happened

A technology assessment identified weaknesses in the systems the district relies on to back up data and keep its network running. It found that only 25 of 134 registered assets were explicitly confirmed in the main backup job, backup-account multifactor authentication was off, and restore tests were not documented.

Why it matters to families

If critical equipment fails or the district faces a cyber incident, gaps in backup verification and network redundancy could make it harder to restore school and administrative services. District officials said they were addressing urgent items and would plan other fixes through future budgets.

The evidence

At the Oct. 28, 2026 board meeting, assessment presenters reported nightly backups and about 62% free backup capacity, but said multifactor authentication was not enabled on the backup root account, local backup immutability was unconfirmed, only 25 of 134 registered assets were explicitly confirmed in the primary backup job, and restore testing was not documented. They also identified the middle school’s single core switch as a districtwide point of failure for WAN termination, routing, and firewall connectivity. The interim superintendent said some urgent items had already been addressed or were in the queue, with other amber-rated items to be considered in future budgets; presenters said remaining stabilization work included a host repair scheduled within 30 days.
