District news
Winthrop approves limits on non-school materials sent home

What happened
The board approved Policy KHC, limiting which non-school materials students may carry home. The policy allows school communications and school-related or affiliated activities; community notices may instead be posted with a principal’s prior approval.
Why it matters to families
This changes a districtwide route by which outside organizations share information with students’ families, while retaining a principal-approved posting option for community notices.
The evidence
The September 16 meeting minutes embedded in document 94722 state that Policy KHC, Distribution of Non-School Materials, passed unanimously for second reading. The attached KHC text in document 94723 says only listed school communications, school-related/affiliated activities, and government-agency notices may be distributed to students to carry home, and community materials require prior principal approval for posting.
