Phones must stay put away all school day; secondary students use Yondr pouches

Day-to-day

What happened

Under Board Policy 5695, students may not use phones, smartwatches or wireless earbuds anywhere on school grounds all day, including lunch and passing time. The September 4 newsletter says all secondary students must keep devices in a Yondr pouch.

Why it matters to families

This changes every school day for students and families. A first offense means the device is stored. A second means the school holds it until day's end and calls parents. Later offenses mean a parent must pick it up. Phone use alone cannot lead to suspension.

The evidence

Policy 5695 (adopted July 23, 2025, 6-0 vote) text and the September 4, 2026 newsletter. Exceptions exist for IEPs, 504 plans, health needs, translation and caring for a family member. The policy requires a public enforcement report starting September 1, 2026.
