District news
District maps program and staffing reductions as structural deficit grows
What happened
The second-interim budget projects recurring deficits of $12.44 million in 2026-27 and $14.47 million in 2027-28, even while staff recommends a positive near-term certification.
Why it matters to families
The district says restricted programs will buy less staffing, identifies reductions to discretionary programs and staff, and says acting early could avoid a much larger later cut.
The evidence
The presentation says supplemental program offerings will be reduced, gives the example that a principal who previously funded 1.0 FTE may afford only 0.875 FTE, and contrasts a $2.5 million 2026-27 reduction with a $9.55 million reduction in 2029-30.
