Adopted budget relies on one-time funds and plans 12 position closures

What happened
The 2026-27 adopted budget says nine FTE positions will close after 2026-27 and three more after 2027-28 while its balancing plan draws on one-time funds.
Why it matters to families
The closures can reduce services available at schools, and the multiyear plan leaves almost no unassigned balance by 2028-29 despite using reserves and temporary grants.
The evidence
The budget lists annual unrestricted deficits of $11.12 million, $13.12 million, and $13.13 million. With one-time funds, it projects only $0.17 million in unassigned balance by 2028-29 and then a $13.93 million negative balance in 2029-30.
