What happened

The district's newly filed FY2028-2033 six-year capital improvement plan lists a complete design-and-construction replacement of False Pass School, estimated at $6,000,000, among its top state-aid priorities. The same plan requests a $5,000,000 roof replacement and $1,500,000 HVAC renovation at Sand Point School and $1,750,000 for siding, windows, and structural repair at Akutan School.

Why it matters to families

This is a funding request to the state, not an approved or funded project yet, but replacing an entire school building is the largest facilities step the district has proposed for any of its four sites in this year's plan, and it signals the current False Pass building's condition is a serious concern.

The evidence

The May 26, 2026 board packet includes the district's FY2028-2033 Six-Year Capital Improvement Plan filed with the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development, listing the False Pass replacement, its estimated cost, and its priority ranking alongside the other site projects.
