District news

Families press the board for an outside investigation after a student's death

High-risk

What happened

From November 2025 through May 2026 the minutes of almost every regular board meeting record family members, friends, alumni and district staff asking the board for an independent investigation into a student's death, for enforcement of discipline policies, and for districtwide anti-bullying and suicide prevention programmes. The minutes of those meetings do not record the board ordering an independent investigation or adopting a new anti-bullying programme.

Why it matters to families

A safety concern that families raise at meeting after meeting, without a recorded district answer, is exactly the sort of open question parents want to be able to check for themselves.

The evidence

The public comment sections of the approved minutes for November 13, 2025 (items 11.1 to 11.9), December 11, 2025, January 15, March 5, April 9 and May 7, 2026 each record speakers requesting an independent investigation, stronger anti-bullying measures and mental health and suicide prevention support. No corresponding board action appears in the items of business for those meetings.
